For many years I have been using an old version of WS_FTP when somebody recently recommended a Free FTP Software called FileZilla, so I downloaded it and gave it a try.

Filezilla Free FTP Software

If you are a regular webmaster like myself, you'll need the Filezilla Client Download (Not FileZilla Server!). Filezilla works on Windows, Macs and Linux operating systems and is surprisingly easy to use.

For example, it is very easy to set file permissions, and file permissions can be set to all folders and files within a directory. This feature came in handy this week while I was installing a script with 4666 files where file permissions had to be made for hundreds of files and directories several levels deep.

Tip: On the Server Side, simply right click on the desired file/s you wish to change permissions on and select File permissions... from the menu, then the above dialogue will appear. In total, I had to change the file permissions of 3432 files and 445 folders. Using the setting in the above screenshot made this a very simple job indeed.
